Mini-blog: Chasers

February 6th, 2008 · 10 Comments

I am doing great today, thanks for asking. I am not a big drinker, like I mentioned in my previous post. My typical drinking pattern is one or two every three months (maybe once a month; depends on how many clients I am taking out to dinner). So, for me to feel compelled to consume alcohol at home is a really big deal. Last night, I had five beers over 2.5 hours. For some, that may not be a lot. For me, that is quite a bit. I do get hangovers from alcohol. I can drink two cape cods over five hours and be hungover in the morning. 5 beers? Well, you can imagine. And I don’t drink shit beer by the way.

So anyway, I told myself, “self, next time you want to imbibe ridiculously, try this chasers thing you keep seeing in the little stores.” Okay, so, since last night, I dragged myself out in my pajamas just to go buy beer, I bought chasers too. They worked. I am very impressed. Two with my first drink, two with my fourth drink. I went to bed about 11:30 p.m. and the dogs woke me up at 7 a.m. If I am no hungover, I usually get that raw stomach feeling. No such feeling today.

So, if you have to go out with clients and drink, or you just feel like having a hell of a night, try those chasers thingies. And I didn’t even do my usual where I drink 16 oz of water and take a huge vitamin pill before going to bed.

Just be sure to get enough to take 2 chasers with every four drinks. That would be my recommendation!

Good lushing!

I’m not a big drinker either. I don’t have a predictable pattern to it.

I currently have a 12-pack of beer (with 10 beers) in the fridge, plus a few of those Mike hard cranberry drinks and a bit of mango tequila. I predict that will still be in the fridge in 3 months. Maybe less beer. I do enjoy my beer the most. (The one good thing I got from my daddy, har har har har HAR).

I tend to only drink when I am celebrating with others. It’s sad and pathetic to drink alone at home, plus the fam has alcohol problems so I have to be careful about drinking when I’m anywhere less than super happy.

I don’t drink at all. I am crazy enough without drinking alcohol. ;o)

Poppy: funny you should mention that. Last March, I had a sci-fi movie party at my house. I provided beer, wine and soft drinks. I learned very quickly that they all like wine and soft drinks. Up until my friend Anthony (the guy you said was man-meat) came to visit me, I had about 2 cases of beer just sitting around. I probably also had 5 bottles of wine, which I started taking over to my friends’ houses when they were having a get together just for someone to enjoy them, since it wasn’t going to be me. Anthony polished off a lot of the beer, and I had some over the last year. Others who have come to visit me drank the beer as well. So, night before last, the beer was all finally gone. I couldn’t believe that I actually went to a store and bought alcohol!! I’m with you. No one should drink alone. We do that when we are lonely, and we need to hide from a feeling. It’s so rare for me, and then I usually end up on the phone with Wayne anyway, since he is my best friend, bitching, complaining or crying about something. Even last night I called him to talk to him about what I felt so sad about. LOL

    Prep: Aren’t we all?

I’m pretty happy in general, but if I drink alone I definitely feel the heightened sadness of anything that’s bothering me. If I just have one beer I’m fine, but I haven’t even had one beer in (I suck at remembering time, but a while). I even found an open beer in my fridge the other day, one I drank two sips out of while eating some dinner I like to have beer with. I don’t like to waste beer, but I also don’t like to pound it just for the sake of finishing it off.

Phht. Back in the old days I would have gone broke buying those things with as much as I drank. One every two drinks? Yikes!

    Robin: Man, I hear you.

Fab: I didn’t explain them very well. There are four in a pack. You take two with your first drink, and the next two four to six drinks later. I guess if you are going to drink more than six drinks, take two more on the twelfth drink, and so forth…

MM: Yeah, I always did want to try them. I feel guilty that I didn’t have a raw stomach this morning…

Darn. When I saw the blog title I thought you were going to have a video of sending those little chaser fireworks down the street after the kids on Fourth of July.

And now all it does is remind me of how much beer we have in the 2nd fridge and I don’t drink beer at home unless we have friends over and its been so long since then its depressing and think I need to go have myself a beer.

Me be a bad person… You already know why I was remiss in responding to comments…

Wayne: The day I see you drink a beer because you are depressed is the day I am going to shoot myself in the head. Because the day you are depressed is the day the world is going to end.

An atomic bomb itself could go off in your backyard, and you would be like, “Oh, okay. We’ll be fine.” lalalalallalalala smile, smile, smile.

    You suck. ;-)

Come on man. You know you want to say something!
